OptiGen's Health Registry Reporting Policies

OptiGen makes every effort to work closely with a variety of breed clubs to help foster the breeding of healthy dogs.  One of the ways that we do this is by providing data reports, at no fee (except for those registries that require one) as described in the table below.  These reports are sent to designated repositories, such as the breed club’s health committee, or to a national health registry such as the OFA. We only will institute a reporting scheme after the breed club has taken official action requesting and authorizing us to do so. Reporting schemes for the clubs that have taken this action to date are shown in the table.

Breed clubs that would like to initiate such a reporting scheme must take official action within the club to decide the following:

  • To whom or to what database are the results to be sent? (e.g. Club’s Health committee chair, OFA, CERF).
  • What class of results are to be sent? For example, do only Normal results get reported or will this be an “Open” registry where all test results are reported?
  • For those breeds that have multiple tests available at OptiGen, which of these tests are to be reported?

Once the club has decided the parameters of their desired reporting scheme, it must then provide OptiGen with written notification of the request for us to report.  In addition to the above information, the official letter should indicate:

  • The registry (e.g. AKC, UKC, UK Kennel Club) with which the breed club is affiliated.  The registration numbers that are supplied by the owner in the test order form should reflect the national registry. If the breed is represented by more than one club with this national registry, the other clubs within that national registry for this breed must also provide written notification requesting the same reporting action before OptiGen can adopt the reporting scheme.
  •  If the breed club wishes to have test results reported to a national health registry, e.g. OFA or CERF, it must contact that organization and make arrangements for this to occur. OptiGen will need to know what fee has been agreed upon with that organization and we will include that fee in the test order as a service to the health registry. The fee will pass through OptiGen and the income will go to the health registry without extra charge.

If the breed is represented by multiple national registries within a country, we strongly urge you to work in cooperation with all of the other breed clubs so that all clubs are taking similar action.  The report for a specific breed will be determined by the national registry field designation that is provided by the owner when the order is placed. For example, if AKC is designated as the national registry for a dog, then the AKC’s parent breed club’s reporting scheme would apply to this dog (although no results are currently provided to the AKC).

Please keep in mind that OptiGen’s health reports are generated at the request of and in compliance with the official policies of the parent breed clubs.  Any questions and concerns regarding the nature of the reporting scheme should be directed to the parent breed club that has instituted the policy.
