FROZEN Semen Sample

OptiGen's genetic tests can be done on frozen semen samples. This is useful in special circumstances to determine the status of a deceased male. Please inform the semen storage company that will be providing the sample that OptiGen requires the following:

• 6-10 million sperm cells in a small vial (<2ml capacity, e.g. Eppendorf snap cap or Nunc screw cap vial). This number of cells is typically obtained from ~1/2 straw or a few frozen pellets.
• Sperm cells do not need to be motile to be used in DNA testing.
• Sample does not need to remain frozen during shipment for DNA testing. Follow shipping instructions as described for blood samples.
